7 Things to Expect at an Initial Meeting With a Wedding Planner
I always encourage my clients to meet with me before I send them a contract. That initial meeting is not only important for my clients, but for me too. This is when we can get a real feel for each other, and we can decide if we’re the best fit.
It’s essentially an interview! There are a few things that I think you should know about this meeting. I’ve been asked these questions numerous times, so I thought I’d get it all out there.
1. I do not charge for the initial meeting.
It really is a FREE initial meeting. I promise I won’t slap you with a bill after we meet. I want to get to know you. I want to learn about your wedding needs. I feel this is the best way to do this.
2. I will try my best to meet you at a convenient time and location for you.
I know that you are a busy person, and I will do my best to work around your schedule so that we can meet. I don’t expect you to take time off work to meet with me.
3. I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire before we meet.
This will save both of us time because I will know the basics of your wedding before we meet. This is also my way of gauging what type of service you’re looking for, and tells me a little about you. Don’t stress about it too much though! I don’t mind if you do not know how to respond to some of the questions.
4. I probably won’t answer specific questions about your wedding.
I don’t typically help you with any planning or answer any questions you have regarding your wedding during this meeting.
5. I will show you my famous emergency kit.
I carry a bag that will help me fix just about any emergency at your wedding. I’m always asked how often I use the items in it too…Trust me; I use them at every wedding.
6. I will have a mock binder to show you what yours could look like.
I have a binder full of information about your wedding. I keep all emails, pictures, layouts and information about your wedding. It is my job to know every detail of your wedding.
7. I am more than happy to explain what a wedding planner can do.
Don’t be shy! There are no silly questions. I know that most of you have never had to work with a wedding planner before. You probably only know what you’ve been told on TV (that I carry around super glue in my purse like Jennifer Lopez in the Wedding Planner, or that I will push you to have swans in your front yard like Martin Short in Father of the Bride).
Even if it’s just a phone conversation or we’re talking over Skype; this should always be the first step. If I think we aren’t a good match, I can recommend some other great planners out there. In the end, I want your wedding to be perfect for you.
