It’s ALL About Love

On December 12, 2014

This time of year gives me goosebumps, and not because it’s cold. It gives me goosebumps because love is in the air. Most of us are able to spend time with our families and enjoy the things that really matter in life. I think Christmas brings out the best in people. We give to strangers and we put aside our differences with friends and family. Thinking about it now, Christmas gives me the same feeling that a wedding does.

For those of you who don’t know, my favorite part of weddings has always been that moment when the couple grasps that they are married and can be together forever. The couple gets this look when they have this realization. If you’ve ever seen it or experienced it for yourself, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Honestly, my heart races just thinking about it and maybe yours does too. I truly thought this moment was all in my head because it seems so surreal. I sort of thought with my love for weddings, I made “the look” up…Until I started talking about it. It is very real and it truly makes for a breathless moment.

If you’re still in the dark, and have no idea what I’m talking about, I will explain it to you. Something happens and those two people only see each other in a room full of hundreds. It’s that moment when the groom looks at his bride and can’t help but smile…That moment when you know the brides heart skipped a beat because of the grooms’ reaction. She knows she’s the only person he sees and vice versa. I’m sure they don’t want it to end; because I certainly don’t! I’ve learned to expect “the look” at a good wedding. I’ve noticed it occasionally in other situations outside of weddings, but it can be found in the speeches or the first dance almost every time. I think because at this point, most of the pressure is gone. This is the first time the couple can really enjoy being with each other. “The look” is also intimate and has so much meaning. In a way, it’s like everyone around them can see into the couple’s soul.

I’ve witnessed some beautiful speeches and vows from couples at their wedding. There are a few that stick out in my mind because they allowed “the look” to prove its existence. A few years ago, a bride told her groom that she was glad that they made it through the hard times. She went on to say that she knows that without rain, there are no rainbows. It was like no one else was in the room but the two of them. I also remember a different bride telling her groom that he was with wind beneath her wings. Or a groom that said once you find somebody who makes every single day of your life better, who makes every single day more enjoyable, by Jove you need to hold onto that person. Last but certainly not least, I remember another bride that took a quote from Winnie the Pooh, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

This holiday season, I encourage you to see Christmas the way I do. It is about giving, but not about giving presents. It’s about giving love and putting the past in the past.
