Who’s Expected to Cover the Costs For the Bridal Party?
It can be tricky to figure out who should pay for what when it comes to the bridal party. In all honesty, there is no right or wrong way. I believe that you should always really appreciate your bridal party and acknowledge that though.
Here are my thoughts on who should pay for what…
Traditionally the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses and shoes. This is usually even if the couple wants a specific dress.
The Hair and Makeup
This is one that can change with certain situations. Proper etiquette would be if the couple required the maids to get their hair and makeup professionally done, she should pay for it. If hair and makeup is optional, then it can be left in the maids hands.
If the couple wants her maids to have matching jewelry, they should pay for those as well. However, it is completely acceptable to give this jewelry as a thank- you gift.
Traditionally, the cost of accommodations for out of town guests is for the bride and the bride’s family to pay. This isn’t necessarily the case anymore though, due to the increase in destination weddings and larger weddings. Nevertheless, it is recommended to always take this into consideration; especially when expecting a maid to come. If you know that she cannot afford it, you should definitely help.
The Transportation from the Ceremony to the Reception
It is the couple’s responsibility to pay for the transportation of the bridal party from the ceremony to the reception. For larger parties, lots of couples are choosing to rent school buses now. I love this idea because the photographer can definitely get some creative shots in and around the bus!
The couple pays for the bouquets and boutonnieres for their family and wedding party.
The Breakfast/Lunch on the Wedding Day
Because the wedding day can be so busy, the couple should come up with a plan for food before that day. They should also cover all costs.
