Why Would You Want to Hire a Professional Photographer?
I follow a lot of wedding forums and pages on Facebook and other social media. I don’t necessarily follow them particularly to get new clients. I follow them because I like knowing what is changing in the industry, and I am able to get tips from a wide variety of people. I have noticed something about these forums that bugs me though. I see a lot of this,
Does anybody know of any good amateur photographers in the Edmonton area? We are on a tight budget so we thought an amateur photographer might be our best option. Our wedding date is_____. Thanks in advance
These posts irritate me because, in my opinion, the photos from weddings are one of the most important things. I love looking back at photos and reminiscing, and I can’t be the only one that feels this way. Your wedding day is probably going to be one of the biggest days of your life. Who wouldn’t want some amazing shots from it?
I think that an amateur photographer or a random relative will probably not capture your wedding the way you want. That being said, I’m sure that there are a few that would…But for the most part, these people do not have the experience that a professional has. Professional photographers will know key details to make your photos the best they can be. They know about things like having to deal with the shadows cast by the leaves of a tree. They understand that you don’t want wedding photos with shadows all over your face. They will position you and themselves to optimize every shot that they take. They will also be able to do some touch-ups in Photoshop. A professional photographer will look for things that will throw off your photos. An example would be that they will be able to take a sticker or graffiti out of your photos. I don’t think the average Joe would even notice some of the subtle things that great photographers do.
I also believe a great photographer will be able to suggest some beautiful shots that you wouldn’t think of otherwise. Most photographers are artists as well. They don’t always want to take those cookie cutter shots. They will push themselves to take those stunning unique shots. Who wants their photographer to pose all of their clients the exact same way, in the exact same place, etcetera? Sure, they will probably still be nice photos because the photographer has something that works; but most couples want their photos to be exceptional. Is it really exceptional if you can find the same photo and it’s not you in the photos? I don’t think so.
I truly feel that professional photographers need to be praised more. They put blood sweat and tears into every one of their clients photos. They also have top-notch equipment to make your photos that much better. They are worth every penny that they ask for. I don’t think cutting corners with your photographer is necessarily a good idea.
