Welcome to the official blog for Breathless Moments! My name is Nicole Schell and I am a Certified Wedding Planner. Let me tell you a little about how all I began my career, and more importantly, why I chose this path.
In the beginning I never imagined myself becoming a wedding planner, but the experience of helping my cousin with her special day ten years ago stayed with me – the elegance, the bliss of such a moment.
I started out as a Visual Merchandiser, eventually taking Special Event Management in the hopes of making a career change. I still loved the display aspect of Visual though, so I thought I’d try something similar and yet, different. Both require attention to detail, which I specialize in. Nothing pleases me more than to focus on the little things that so often get overlooked, but which enhance the beauty of the atmosphere. Later, I worked doing children’s birthday parties, which was a delightful experience.
Then one day I decided that I wanted to broaden my horizons, and began by furthering my education. To gain greater experience, two seasons ago I volunteered with a local company to plan a large Indian wedding at Sutton Place, and I have been doing it ever since. Some of my favorite memories are the couple’s speeches; you really get a sense of who they are and how deeply they love one another, hear the funny stories of how they met, and so often there are tears of joy. Once, a beautiful bride I worked with, when describing her journey with her groom, said: “Without rain, there is no rainbow.” That resonated with me and I just fell in love with being able to take part in a couple’s “breathless moments.”
So what is my vision? To be the most unique wedding planner possible, to create an atmosphere which transcends all traditions and exceeds all expectations. I want to be the designer of the wedding held at the Vancouver Aquarium, at Disneyland, of the Medieval wedding held in HawrelakPark during the Shakespeare Festival or a carnival theme by the CN Tower. I want to plan the wedding reception with dragon dancers preceding the bride, or circus trapeze artists dazzling the guests, belly dancers mixed with a theme of the Moulin Rouge…something that is personal to the couple, that no one else would ever dream of.
And with each new fantasy I turn into reality, I will go home at the end of the day knowing that yet another couple now has exquisite memories to last a lifetime, memories that took their breath away and replaced it with pure awe.
So join me as I document my journey and share my thoughts, ideas and elaborate concepts. And remember, when your time comes, you don’t have to settle for a traditional, cookie cutter wedding – call me instead. I promise you’ll be glad you did.
